Focus on the platonic, non-sexual, "soulmatey" aspect of the relationship, but there ARE occasional hints at romance (pretty much all combinations of those three, including both male and female Shepards).

Shepard’s driving, obviously, so do the two squadmates just do Rock, Paper, Scissors to decide who gets to shoot?
I guess whoever loses gets to sit there and be a backseat driver/gunner.
